Juniper Capital Partners, LLC is an investment firm with a predisposition towards distressed or out of favor assets with attractive valuations. With a focus on value, Juniper Capital invests in a variety of verticals within the Real Estate industry including value investing, distressed loans and Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities. 

Juniper Capital is active in all aspects of the investment process including  the origination,  structuring, underwriting, management and sale of its interests.  Juniper Capital investments generally require a substantial activist role as a manager, board member or advisor.

Juniper Capital’s managing partners have significant investment management experience.  The partners have held positions as partners in investment firms and as senior managers in large multi-national firms and global investment banks.  They have managed significant portfolios of assets and operating companies and have a successful track record of growth and returns.

Managing Partner, Jon Strain

Jon Strain joined Juniper Capital from Goldman Sachs in September 2016.  He will be heading up the real estate business for the partnership.Mr. Strain was co-head of Goldman Sachs U.S. Real Estate Finance where he was responsible for balance sheet and CMBS lending, securitization and marketing of CMBS and other complex mortgage and mezzanine debt capital. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he ran commercial mortgage capital markets at J.P. Morgan for 7 years.  Previous roles including real estate credit investing for Dillon Read Capital hedge fund (UBS) and  head of CMBS syndication and trading at Morgan Stanley.

Before his Wall Street career, Mr. Strain worked at a real estate developer in Chicago with extensive direct experience in the construction, leasing and management of office, industrial, apartment and hotel developments with the Fifield Companies. Mr. Strain is a former member of the CREFC Board of Governors and a graduate of Brown University. He is currently on the boards of the Tewaaraton Foundation and Montclair Kimberly Academy.

Managing Partner, Alex Krys

Alex Krys is a founding partner of Juniper Capital. Most recently, through an advisory agreement with  Juniper Capital, Mr. Krys served as the President and COO of Turnberry Associates. Turnberry is a Florida based developer, owner and manager of commercial, retail, residential and hospitality assets including the Fontainebleau Hotel and Aventura Mall.  Turnberry underwent a substantial restructuring during Mr. Krys’ tenure.

Mr. Krys also led the restructuring of the Gencom assets that included Ritz Carlton hotels in Florida, Pennsylvania,  Colorado, California and Hawaii.  Additionally, he was a senior  advisor for  GenSpring Family  Offices, a $20 billion multi-family office. Previously, Mr. Krys served as President of Diageo Spain/Europe where he led one of Diageo’s four major worldwide markets.  He also served as President of Diageo’s  Venture Markets, Americas and the Caribbean where he  tripled regional profit and achieved double-digit growth over  5 years in a portfolio of 36 countries.

Managing Partner, Jay Wolf

Prior to forming Juniper Capital,  Mr. Wolf was a partner at an activist hedge fund focused primarily on small-cap and distressed public companies.  He served on the boards of a number of the fund’s portfolio companies assisting in strategic and financial planning as well as management restructuring. Mr. Wolf  began his career at Canadian Corporate Funding Ltd. (CCFL) a Toronto based merchant bank .  He was an analyst in CCFL’s senior debt department and subsequently an Associate in Trillium Growth Capital, the firm’s venture capital fund.

Mr. Wolf has served on the boards of numerous private and public companies in varying roles and committees. Mr. Wolf currently sits on the boards of IMH Financial Corporation and Salucro Health Solutions Ltd. Mr. Wolf is a member of the Board of Governors of Cedars Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles.

Legal and Operations Vice President, Kate Hay

Kate has experience in the areas of securitization and secured lending from previously working at a Bay Street law firm.  Kate left law for a job in real estate and corporate strategy with a large iconic Canadian retailer then moving into the role of Vice President, Client Strategy at Colliers International.

Kate has worked on a number of transactions, most recently when seconded to JCF Capital ULC where she has been working as their Chief Operating Officer and involved in all aspects of the transaction related to former Trump International Hotel and Tower Toronto. Kate graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Associate, Moshe Zelkowicz

Moshe joined Juniper Capital in early 2017. Moshe has experience in the areas of Project and Program Management having previously worked on Facebook's office expansion program in the Northeast United States and Latin America. Prior to that Moshe worked as a senior consultant for Ernst & Young in their Construction Real Estate Advisory practice. 

Moshe has also worked for Arup Group as a transaction advice analyst working on large infrastructure projects as well as a field engineer for Turner Construction. Moshe holds an M.S. in Sustainable Design and Project Management from Stanford University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech.
